Fidget Jacket

Incorporating fidgets directly into the jacket design and having a bunch of pockets inside and outside the jacket, children can be free to fidget without feeling socially isolated.

“The research confirms that fidgeting is helpful and can be an essential tool for many children who have sensory processing and/or autism spectrum disorders, ADD, or ADHD.” (March, 2017)

Tactile stimuli, such as fidgeting, can increase attention and enhance learning in children with sensory processing difficulties (March, 2017)

 Fidget tools can be seen as fun toys to those in the classroom that don’t need them, so they can become a distraction to other students.

Marbles are sewn into the hems of the jacket sleeves and the front hems of the jacket for an additional hidden fidget built right into the jacket.

Slime is another fidget incorporated into the design. Loop tape is sewn as panels on the front of the jacket. The hook side is attached to the slime that is encased in plastic.

This allows for interchangeable colors and effects (glow in the dark, color change from temperature or light, glitter, etc.) Other additionally items could be created to be attached as well.

Rayon Bamboo Fleece is use due to it’s incredibly soft nature, it’s an eco friendly choice, and it’s not irritating to the skin due to coming from a natural source.

Heat transfer foil and free motion stitching are used to create an abstract print on the surface.

The jackets and the pants feature many pockets that can hold additional fidget toys and are big enough to conceal the use of them if desired.

The jacket pockets, both the four on the outside and two on the inside, open at the sides so hands can be easily slipped inside.

The pants feature double-layer pockets, just like the jacket, but open from the top for easiest access. They are placed so that the student can easily access them while seated at a table or desk at school.

The jacket has a magnetic closure and the pants have elastic at the waist and at the ankles.
